Mosque bombing: Apex committee meets today in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: A crucial meeting of the apex committee is due to take place later today to consider relevant actions to cub terrorism and protect citizens’ lives and property.

According to official sources, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has summoned KP’s Security Apex Committee meeting today (Friday) to discuss matters related to reorganisation of KP Police and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD).

The meeting, which is scheduled to take place at Governor House, comes after Monday’s bombing in Peshawar mosque, in which some 101 people lost their lives and more than 200 injured.

The meeting will be attended by all service chiefs including Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, as well as forces top brass including ISI Chief Lt-General Nadeem Anjum, Chairman joint chiefs of staff committee and Navy and Air Force chiefs, and head of other security and intelligence agencies.

MM News has learnt that the meeting will be held after 15 months, and key decisions are set to take place in the meeting over the law and order situation and terrorism following the tragedy in Peshawar.

It has also been learnt that the meeting is also expected to take decisions to set up targeted operations to end the menace of terrorism.

Moreover, an updated list of elements involved in terrorism – their facilitators and hideouts – will also be presented in the apex committee meeting at Governor House.
