Founding Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s three sisters — Aleema Khan, Uzma Khan, and Noreen Khan — were detained by security agencies near an under-construction plaza close to Adiala Jail.
Along with them, Chairman of the Sunni Ittehad Council, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, PTI leaders Qasim Khan Niazi, Malik Ahmed, and Umar Ayub were also taken into custody.
Sources indicate that the individuals were present near the jail to express solidarity with Imran Khan or in anticipation of his possible release. However, authorities stated that gathering near a sensitive area without official permission is a violation of security regulations, prompting the detentions.
Concerns have been raised over the manner of the arrest — particularly the involvement of male officers in the detention of Aleema Khan and other women, which has sparked legal and ethical questions. All those detained were reportedly shifted to an undisclosed location, and no official statement has been released as yet.
The arrests have triggered strong reactions from political circles. PTI leaders claim these actions are meant to suppress supporters of Imran Khan and sabotage the party’s public outreach campaign.
The arrest of Sahibzada Hamid Raza, head of a key PTI-allied party, is drawing particular concern, given his active political engagement.
Umar Ayub — a prominent PTI figure and considered a possible candidate for the prime minister’s post — was also detained, which could further heighten political tensions.
These arrests are expected to intensify the already strained political climate in the country, and human rights organization.
