In a deeply disturbing incident, 85 graves, many of them belonging to babies and young children, were desecrated in the Muslim section of Carpenders Park Lawn Cemetery in Watford, UK.
The Hertfordshire Police have launched an investigation, treating the incident as a potential Islamophobic hate crime.
The vandalism was discovered by a grieving family, sparking shock and anguish within the local Muslim community. Extra police patrols are being deployed, and authorities are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
Inspector Will Rogers-Overy confirmed that senior police officials are working closely with community leaders to support affected families. He emphasized ongoing engagement with the community during this difficult time.
Wadi Funeralcare, which serves many local Muslim families, described the vandalism as “heartbreaking” and marked by “unspeakable acts of disrespect.”
Although the cemetery is located in Watford, it is managed by Brent Council. Council leader Muhammed Butt condemned the desecration as a possible Islamophobic hate crime, promising swift action to repair damaged plaques and restore the cemetery’s sanctity once the investigation concludes.
