Karachi: In a week-long crackdown on traffic violations across Sindh, traffic police have seized more than 11,000 motorcycles, following the directives of Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.
According to the report submitted by traffic police covering the period from April 9 to 16, a total of 11,276 motorcycles were impounded for violations including riding without helmets and other traffic infractions.
Additionally, 831 vehicles were penalized for having fancy number plates and tinted windows.
The crackdown also targeted heavy vehicles, with 193 dumpers and tankers seized for over-speeding and lack of fitness certification.
The report further recommended cancellation of registration for 25 traffic police vehicles due to fitness issues and temporary suspension of registration for another 174 unfit vehicles.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah emphasized strict action against motorcyclists not wearing helmets and reiterated a zero-tolerance policy towards unfit and unregistered vehicles. He instructed immediate issuance of challans for illegal number plates and tinted windows, stressing the importance of full enforcement of traffic laws.
Meanwhile, Senior Provincial Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that the crackdown would continue indiscriminately, with all relevant departments playing an active role.
He urged citizens to respect traffic laws and ensure their vehicles are properly documented, fit, and registered before taking them on the roads.
