HOUSTON: S. Javaid Anwar, an American citizen of Pakistani descent, received the esteemed “Outstanding International Philanthropist Award” from the World Affairs Council of Greater Houston during their 25th Annual Jesse H. Jones Award Luncheon. The award was presented to Anwar by former U.S. President George W. Bush at a special ceremony held at the Presidential Reception.
Anwar was selected for this prestigious recognition due to his remarkable global impact, exceptional leadership, and outstanding contributions to fostering Houston’s international engagement over a span of 25 years. When announcing the award, Maryanne Maldonado, the CEO of the World Affairs Council, paid a heartfelt tribute to Anwar.
In a statement, the Council hailed Anwar as a living testament to the synergy between diplomacy and philanthropy. He embodies a lifelong commitment to dedication and service. In the state of Texas, his contributions have spanned a range of initiatives, including his support for the University of Texas and his role as a board member of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
Following Hurricane Harvey, Anwar generously supported the Greater Houston community in its recovery efforts. His numerous philanthropic endeavors underscore his pioneering work in enhancing the local community.
George W. Bush also lauded Anwar’s generosity, highlighting it as an inspiring model of citizenship and leadership. He even featured Anwar in his book “Out of Many, One” as a testament to his remarkable contributions.
