The Meteorological Department has forecasted rain and thunderstorm in parts of Pakistan from today through June 1 amid the prevailing heatwave.
Towards the latter part of the forecast period, Balochistan, encompassing areas such as Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, and Barkhan, is likely to encounter thunderstorms, lightning, and precipitation.
Likewise, from May 28th to June 1st, regions including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Kohistan, Waziristan, Shangla, Lucky Marwat, Karak, Peshawar, and Mardan are anticipated to receive rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms.
As per the Meteorological Department, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir, alongside Murree, Galyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Gujranwala, and Sialkot, may witness precipitation from May 28th to June 1st.
In Punjab, cities like Lahore, Faisalabad, Narowal, and Okara, and in Sindh, Karachi, Thatta, Badin, and Hyderabad, may observe rainfall on May 28th and 29th.
Meanwhile, in Karachi, the onset of sea breeze provided relief from the oppressive heat. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the sea breeze in Karachi reached speeds of 39.6 kilometers per hour (22 nautical miles) today, with a possibility of increasing to 48.6 kilometers per hour (27 nautical miles).
A day prior, the PMD had forecasted a three-day heatwave in the city from May 29th to May 31st (Wednesday to Friday), during which temperatures may surpass 42 degrees Celsius. With increased humidity levels, the heat may be perceived as more intense.
