The Punjab Housing Department has put forward a proposal that could lead to a significant increase in water bills for domestic consumers in Lahore, potentially reaching up to 60 percent. This move aims to generate additional taxes for the province.
Under the proposed plan, the Punjab Housing Department has suggested substantial hikes in the monthly water tariffs for consumers in Lahore. These recommendations have been submitted to the provincial government for approval.
Outlined in the notification are the proposed charges based on house size, showcasing a notable escalation from current tariffs to the suggested rates:
- For houses sized between 3 to 5 marlas, the current tariff stands at Rs375, while the proposed tariff is Rs718.
- Similarly, for houses sized between 5 to 7 marlas, the current tariff is Rs564, which may rise to Rs938.
- For larger houses, ranging from 7 to 20 marlas, the proposed tariffs escalate significantly, with the highest bracket of 15 to 20 marlas facing a proposed tariff of Rs2,183, compared to no specified current tariff.
