LAHORE: The Punjab government reduced the price of roti to Rs14 on Thursday, receiving mixed reactions from various stakeholders.
In Lahore, the price was set at Rs14, while in Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan, it is now Rs12. In Kot Addu, Muzaffargarh, and Chiniot, roti is also selling for Rs12, whereas in Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, and Rajanpur, it is priced at Rs13.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced the price reduction on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, stating that citizens should benefit from the nationwide decrease in flour prices. The new prices are expected to be effective starting tomorrow.
However, the Naan Bai Association rejected the decision, criticizing the government for not consulting with relevant stakeholders. The association’s president argued that the government should also address the high costs of electricity and gas. He announced a meeting on Friday to discuss a future course of action.
The most recent cut comes after the Punjabi government had declared on May 11 that the price of roti would be decreased to Rs15. After protracted talks with the Naan Bai Association, the announcement was made.
