The University of Karachi canceled the admission of a student on Saturday for removing a ‘dupatta’ from a female classmate’s head, as reported by a private TV channel.
According to Adviser on Students’ Affairs, Nausheen Raza, the incident occurred during an exam at the School of Law on Friday.
“The student removed a ‘dupatta’ from the female student’s head and then attempted to flee. However, the examination hall staff apprehended him,” she explained.
Nausheen stated that the decision to expel the student was made during the university’s disciplinary committee meeting, attended by, among others, the university’s acting Sheikh Justice retired Hasan Feroz.
The adviser mentioned that upon the acting Sheikh’s directives, the university’s registrar would issue a notification for the student’s expulsion.
The student’s stance has not been disclosed, nor has their identity been revealed. This is the first incident of its kind in the varsity, which has thousands of male and female students.
