The national airline (PIA) has earned billions in net profit after 21 years. In 2024, the national airline earned an operational profit of Rs 9.3 billion and a net profit of Rs 26.2 billion, as reported by national media.
According to the spokesperson, the airline’s operating margin remained over 12%, which is on par with any top-tier airline. The last time the national airline earned a profit was in 2003.
On the notable performance of the airline, Minister of Defence and Aviation Khawaja Asif said that the public had lost hope in the airline once considered the pride of the nation, but due to the government’s strict measures, a positive transformation has been made possible.
In his statement, Khawaja Asif also shared that the national airline earned Rs 9.3 billion in operating profit in the fiscal year 2024. After 21 years, PIA secured a net profit of Rs 26.2 billion. The airline underwent restructuring and rationalization in costs and workforce.
Federal Minister Khawaja Asif said that the national airline is now ready to capitalize on its financial performance through privatization. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, good news is coming from all sides. He said comprehensive reforms have been implemented under route corrections and financial discipline.
