The Commissioner Karachi has imposed an immediate ban on the entry and movement of auto-rickshaws on 11 major roads in the port city, which will remain in effect until June 14, 2025.
According to the official notification, “One Plus Two” and “One Plus Four” motor cab rickshaws (i.e., rickshaws with two or four seats in addition to the driver) will not be allowed to run or enter the following major routes:
- Shara Faisal to Awari Tower Hotel
- I.I Chandrigarh Road to Shaheen Complex
- Quaid-e-Azam Street to Nomaish Chowrangi
- Sher Shah Suri Road to Matric Board Road
- Shaheed Millat Road to Jail Chowrangi
- Abdullah Haroon Road to Two Talwar Chowk
- Two Talwar to Shara-e-Farooqi
- Around Stadium Road and Millennium Mall
- Sir Shah Suleman Road and Sir Habib Ibrahim Road
- Rashid Minhas Road to Dargah Road
- Maripur Road to Gulbai Road
The decision has been taken to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion on Karachi’s busiest highways.
The authorities are expected to strictly enforce the ban, and rickshaw drivers have been instructed to avoid these routes to avoid fines or vehicle impoundment.
