MUMBAI: Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman has disclosed that he wasn’t getting enough work in Bollywood because there is a whole gang working against him, denting his chances of getting good work.
The revelation came up when AR Rahman was asked why he doesn’t compose more music for Bollywood movies and works more frequently in Tamil cinema during an interaction on Indian FM station.
In this regard, the Oscar-winning composer said that certain people in the Hindi film industry have constantly been spreading rumors about him. “I don’t say no to good movies, but I think there is a gang, which, due to misunderstandings, is spreading some false rumors,” he added.
The musician composed nine songs for Sushant Singh Rajput’s last film Dil Bechara that premiered on Disney Plus Hotstar on June 24. The film has been winning plaudits for its hummable tunes.
AR Rahman further revealed that Dil Bechara director Mukesh Chhabra was told many stories about him by some people in Bollywood and was advised not to approach him for composing music for his debut film.
“When Mukesh Chhabra came to me, I gave him four songs in two days. He told me about all the rumors certain people were spreading. Then I realised why I am getting fewer Bollywood offers and why the producers aren’t approaching me,” he disclosed.
He further said, “I am doing dark movies because there is a whole gang working against me. People are expecting me to do stuff, but there is another gang of people preventing that from happening.”
“It is fine, because I believe in destiny, and I believe that everything comes from God. So, I am taking my movies and doing my other stuff,” the musician concluded.
AR Rahman had won two Oscars for Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire in 2009. In October last year, he turned producer with the musical film, 99 Songs.
