PESHAWAR: Strong earthquake tremors were felt across several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, triggering panic among residents. Many people rushed outdoors and were seen reciting the Kalma Tayyaba as they sought safety.
According to the seismological centre, tremors were felt in the provincial capital Peshawar as well as Swat, Mardan, Charsadda, Swabi and Mohmand.
The earthquake was recorded at 4.9 magnitude on the Richter scale, with its epicentre located in Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region. The earthquake occurred at a depth beneath the Earth’s surface.
Meanwhile, earthquake tremors had also been felt a day earlier in Khuzdar district and surrounding areas of Balochistan.
According to the geological centre of the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the Khuzdar earthquake was recorded at 4.5 magnitude. Its epicentre was located approximately 45 kilometres east of Khuzdar city, at a depth of 30 kilometres.
Fortunately, no loss of life or property has so far been reported from either province following the successive earthquake tremors.
