KARACHI: The ongoing spell of intense heat in Karachi has broken the previous September temperature record, with the mercury rising above the 40°C mark. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, high humidity coupled with rising temperatures has further aggravated the difficulties faced by residents.
New Record
According to meteorological data, the maximum temperature recorded at one of Karachi’s weather stations on Monday was 40.7°C.
Nine-Year Record Broken
The previous highest temperature recorded in Karachi during September was 40.5°C in 2017. The latest reading of 40.7°C has surpassed that nine-year-old record.

High humidity has made conditions feel considerably hotter than the actual air temperature, increasing the heat index and adding to the discomfort of residents across the city.
