ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly condemned an alleged drone attack attempt near Makkah and reaffirmed Pakistan’s full solidarity and support for Saudi Arabia.
In a statement, the prime minister described the reported attempt to target the holy city of Makkah as deeply distressing and unacceptable. He said the incident had caused serious concern and sorrow among the people of Pakistan.
Shehbaz Sharif stressed that the sanctity and security of the Two Holy Mosques hold a place of profound importance in the hearts of every Pakistani. He reaffirmed that Pakistan would continue to stand firmly with its brotherly country, Saudi Arabia, in safeguarding its sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.
The prime minister also praised the Saudi armed forces for their swift response, following the interception of the drone before it could enter Makkah’s restricted airspace. He commended the Saudi forces for their professionalism, vigilance and courage in preventing the reported threat from reaching the holy city.
Drone Intercepted Near Makkah
Saudi air defense forces had earlier intercepted and destroyed a drone heading towards Makkah before it could reach its intended target.
According to Saudi authorities, the drone was intercepted south of Makkah before entering the holy city’s prohibited airspace.
The incident has been described by Saudi officials as an attempt to target Makkah. However, Houthi authorities have denied the allegation, rejecting claims that the group targeted Makkah with a drone.
The incident comes amid heightened regional tensions and growing security concerns involving missile and drone attacks in the region.
