LAHORE: Australian opener Travis Head has created history in the first one-day international (ODI) against Pakistan at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore on Monday.
The left-handed batter has become the fifth-fastest to reach the century milestone. Head reached his 100-run mark in only 70 deliveries which included 12 boundaries and three maximums.
In addition to that, Head has also become the fastest Australian to reach the milestone against Pakistan. The left-hander was eventually sent back to the pavilion by Iftikhar Ahmed as Khushdil Shah held on to Head’s catch at long-off.
Moreover, Head broke the record for the fastest century against Pakistan in Pakistan in ODI cricket. Head broke the record held by Zimbabwean batter, Sikander Raza. Raza had scored an 84 ball century against the Men in Green in 2015.
With this century, Head’s name will go down in the history books as he has equaled the number of deliveries it took New Zealand’s Ross Taylor to get to the milestone back in 2011.
Here are the fastest centuries against Pakistan in ODIs:
Jos Buttler (46 balls), 2015
Sanath Jayasuriya (48 balls), 1996
Jos Buttler (50 balls), 2019
Mushfiqur Rahim (69 balls), 2015
Travis Head (70 balls), Today
Ross Taylor (70 balls), 2011
The left-handed Australian opener smashed 12 fours and 3 sixes as he put Australia in a strong position in the first ODI. A win for Australia will help them climb up the ICC ODI World Cup Super League while Pakistan will stay at the eleventh spot after ten matches in the competition.
