ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz has said that their party is ready for talks with the establishment.
In an interview with a British media outlet, Maryam Nawaz said that talks with army could be considered from the platform of Pakistan Democratic Moment (PDM). However, she said the government will have to be sent packing before any eventual talks.
She claimed that contacts had been made by the establishment through close associates. No one contacted me directly, she maintained. In reply to a question, Maryam Nawaz said that the PML-N is willing to hold talks with the current leadership of the army.
“We can consider talks on the platform of the PDM if this fake government is sent home,” she said. She further said “The army is my institution. We will speak with them but within the scope of the constitution. And it will be in front of the people.”
Replying to a question on dialogue with the government, she said that they can hold consultation with all “stakeholders” but dialogue would be with the people. The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Sindh case has not been answered but more questions have been raised, she said.
“I am not against the institutions. But I believe that if we have to move forward, then we have to send the government home,” she asserted.
Maryam Nawaz said that PM Imran Khan and the government would have to go home to get the country out of the crisis. She said that new transparent elections should be held and a representative government should be set up.
She added that any alliance with PTI would be equal to pardoning them, adding it was time for accountability and not affiliation. She said the government was worried and was making mistakes in haste.
Maryam Nawaz refused to acknowledge that PML-N’s politics was heading towards a dead alley. “I think those are moving towards a close end who make things up,” she said, adding direction have taken have only one narrative of ‘Give respective to the vote.’
“The people have seen the result. This is not a deadend, it is the way forward. This is the way for supremacy of the law and constitution,” she said.
