Quetta is gearing up for its first-ever Pink Bus Service, as the Balochistan government plans to enhance public transportation in towns and cities across the province, including the capital.
Provincial Transport Secretary Hayat Khan Kakar revealed the expansion plan on Sunday, announcing the purchase of 21 new buses, including four pink buses exclusively for female passengers.
“These buses will operate in Quetta and Turbat,” Mr. Kakar stated, adding that they are expected to hit the roads by June. The procurement phase is complete, tenders have been issued, and the delivery of buses is set to begin next month.
Initially, four green buses will start running in Turbat, the administrative hub of the Makran division, while four pink buses will cater to female passengers in Quetta.
Meanwhile, 12 new green buses will join the existing fleet operating in Quetta and expand services to new routes, improving connectivity in the provincial capital.
Currently, eight buses run between Sariab and IT University in Quetta. Mr. Kakar also shared plans to further expand the green and pink bus services to Kolchak and Dasht in the future, providing better transport options for these areas.
