The Sindh Government has decided to purchase new vehicles for Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners (DCs) across the province, allocating over Rs. 526.6 million for the procurement.
According to media reports, this funding will cover vehicles for 6 Commissioners and 29 Deputy Commissioners, excluding the Keamari district. Each Commissioner is set to receive a vehicle valued at Rs. 18 million, while each Deputy Commissioner will receive one worth Rs. 14.4 million.
The Sindh Finance Department has already disbursed the allocated funds to the designated supplier, following the approval of the provincial cabinet and the necessary audit clearance.
It is worth noting that in September 2024, despite public commitments to austerity, the Sindh Government also sanctioned the purchase of 138 luxury double-cabin vehicles for Assistant Commissioners (ACs) across the province. At that time, the Services, General Administration, and Coordination Department had requested nearly Rs. 2 billion for these vehicles.
Reports further revealed that Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah approved the summary for the current vehicle procurement shortly before departing on an official visit to the United States.
The decision comes amid ongoing financial challenges that have already delayed or curtailed several new development initiatives under the 2024–2025 Annual Development Program.
