Lahore has officially completed Route 47, a state-of-the-art, 4.5-kilometer smart road designed to connect key parts of the city, including Kalma Chowk, Ferozepur Road, and Walton Road.
Hailed by officials as the most advanced urban roadway in Pakistan, Route 47 integrates cutting-edge infrastructure with sustainable design.
The corridor passes through Kalma Chowk and links major urban arteries such as Ferozepur Road, Gulberg Main Boulevard, Walton Road, and the Lahore Ring Road. It includes a range of modern features, including a flyover, dedicated bicycle lanes, pedestrian walkways, and a comprehensive drainage system engineered to prevent flooding during the monsoon season.
A defining element of Route 47 is its emphasis on sustainability. Solar panels installed along the sidewalks are expected to generate up to one megawatt of electricity while also providing shade—making it the first energy-generating road in Pakistan.
The project, with an estimated cost of Rs9 billion (approximately USD 32 million), was executed by the Punjab Central Business District Development Authority (CBD Punjab).

Route 47 cuts through the site of the former Walton Airport, a 300-acre area now being transformed into Lahore’s Central Business District. This redevelopment is part of a broader initiative aimed at promoting vertical urban growth and turning the area into a modern high-rise commercial hub.
