The National Assembly on Tuesday approved the Finance Bill 2026 for the fiscal year 2026-27, integrating several government-backed amendments with the support of coalition partners.

The bill was presented by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb during a budget session that witnessed strong protests from opposition members.

According to reports, all amendments proposed by the finance minister were accepted, while those submitted by opposition parties were rejected. The passage of the bill clears the way for the implementation of the federal budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

Despite facing an estimated revenue shortfall of nearly Rs1 trillion in the outgoing fiscal year, the government has set an ambitious revenue collection target of Rs15.264 trillion for FY2026-27.

This represents a 17.6% increase over the revised revenue estimate of Rs12.983 trillion for the current fiscal year.

Following the budget announcement, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) released the Finance Bill 2026-27, which was also presented in the Senate for consideration.
