ISLAMABAD: In yet another blow to inflation-stricken citizens, electricity has become more expensive across the country. According to a notification issued by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), the price of electricity has been increased by Rs 1.11 per unit.
Per NEPRA’s directive, this adjustment in electricity prices has been made under the monthly Fuel Price Adjustment (FPA) for August, and it will remain applicable for one month only.
This extra amount will be collected from all electricity consumers nationwide, including Karachi, through their monthly bills for October. According to sources, this August fuel adjustment will place a cumulative additional financial burden of Rs 19 billion on the pockets of general consumers.
However, according to the NEPRA notification, lifeline consumers have been completely exempted from this Rs 1.11 per unit increase, meaning it will not apply to them.
