MUMBAI: Indian singer Mika Singh has questioned why Muslims from Pakistan and those living in Dubai appear to be viewed differently by some people in India.
According to Indian media reports, Mika Singh discussed his experiences in Pakistan during an appearance on the “Baatein Dil Se” podcast and shared his views about the people he encountered there.
Recalling his visit to Pakistan, Mika said he had seen local Muslims helping maintain and clean Sikh religious sites. He noted that many Muslims in Pakistan assist with services at gurdwaras and contribute to their upkeep.
During the conversation, the singer said he did not consider Pakistan or its people to be inherently bad. However, he questioned why some people in India appear to have negative perceptions of Pakistani Muslims while holding different views of Muslims living in Dubai.
Mika also spoke about the significance of Sikh religious sites in Pakistan and recalled his experiences with local people during his previous visit to the country.
Mika Singh’s 2019 Visit to Pakistan
Mika Singh had previously faced controversy in India after performing at an event in Karachi in 2019. The event was reportedly organised by a close relative of former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf.
A video of Mika performing at the event surfaced amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, prompting criticism from sections of the Indian entertainment industry.
The All India Cine Workers Association and the Federation of Western India Cine Employees subsequently announced a boycott of the singer and said that he would not be allowed to undertake professional work in India’s entertainment industry.
According to reports, the boycott was lifted later that month after Mika Singh apologised for performing at the event.
