KPK elections
After the defeat in the local body elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Prime Minister and PTI chief Imran Khan said that we made mistakes in the first phase of the local body elections in KP. From here, we will see the strategy of PTI in the second phase of local body elections.
In KP, JUI-F is leading in the local body arena. PTI has not won any mayoral seat but PML-N won 3, Jamaat-e-Islami won 2, PPP won 1 seat, and Mazdoor Kisan Party won one seat. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is considered the stronghold of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and opposition parties have termed the defeat of PTI as important.
PDM chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Bilawal Bhutto, and Maryam Nawaz have termed this success as the starting point. Maulana Fazlur Rehman says that JUI is the largest party in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while the PPP chairman is also keeping an eye on KPK.
After a historic victory in the 2018 general elections, the PTI has failed to maintain its winning streak and in the by-elections held in the country, the PTI candidates were defeated and in some places, it was impossible to regain their seats. PTI Chairman PM Imran Khan, while admitting defeat, pointed out his own mistakes. However, Fawad Chaudhry believes that local government elections are held on local issues in local communities and factions without any national colour.
There is no doubt that PTI has won a resounding victory in the last general elections across the country, but the results of the local body elections are a matter of concern for the ruling party. PTI needs to know the reasons for this defeat as it’s a fact that due to the high inflation in the country, citizens are suffering. Therefore, there is a need for the government to immediately address the serious issue in the country so that the unrest among the people suffer less.
