ISLAMABAD: The Karachi heatwave is expected to persist from May 6 to May 8, with temperatures reaching a maximum of 40-42 degrees Celsius, as per the weather department’s alert.
Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz has warned of intense heat during this period and advised people to avoid unnecessary outdoor travel.
Coastal areas, including Karachi, are preparing for the heatwave, with temperatures predicted to hover between 36°C to 38°C. However, high humidity levels will make it feel much hotter, reaching up to 40°C-44°C.
Health experts are stressing the importance of taking precautions against heat-related discomfort and health risks. Drinking plenty of water and wearing light clothing are recommended to combat the scorching temperatures.
Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi has instructed deputy commissioners to implement measures to protect citizens from the impending heatwave. Stalls offering cold drinking water will be set up in busy areas, alongside heatstroke centers equipped with medical assistance, chilled water, shaded areas, wet towels, and first aid kits. These centers will operate without interruptions due to load shedding, ensuring continuous support to those affected by the heatwave.
