At a time when a common man is facing unbearable inflation, the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the federal cabinet has given its approval for increasing the prices of 20 medicines, including the price of paracetamol.
It is true that the country is passing through an unprecedented tough economic situation and the government is compelled to make difficult decisions regarding hike in prices, but it is completely unfair to transfer the whole burden to an ordinary person. Instead, the government should minimize its luxurious expenses to cope with the situation and should not put more burden on the masses.
Despite, alarming economic situation the extravagant and lavish life style of our Prime Minister, his cabinet-members and all others who are part of the government is continue, which is creating a sense of deprivation among the people who are hardly earning their two ends meal.
Hike in the prices of medicines will further increase the miseries of a common Pakistani as already is it difficult for him to afford treatment expenses of his family. Even when a person goes to a government hospital for treatment he has to buy medicine as most of the government hospitals do not provide a single pill to the patients and they have to buy it from the market.
In this situation, at least, the government should provide common medicines to the patients in government hospitals free of cost to somehow compensate them. Otherwise, a common man, in case of illness, will have no option but to die in the home without medicine and treatment.
