KARACHI: A security guard was killed after a structure of an under-construction bridge under the Red Line project collapsed near Baitul Mukarram Mosque in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Karachi.
According to a Rescue 1122 spokesperson, the incident occurred on Wednesday while the victim was performing security duties at the project site. The structure suddenly collapsed, trapping the guard under the debris and causing his death.
The spokesperson said a Rescue 1122 team was dispatched to the site after the Central Command and Control Centre received information about the incident.
The accident occurred as construction work on the Red Line project continues along University Road. Last week, Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said efforts were underway to complete the ongoing work and restore the flow of traffic on University Road.
Construction on the Red Line project has faced several hurdles. Work, which had remained stalled, resumed in November 2025 after several issues were addressed following the intervention of the Sindh chief minister.
