K-Electric on Friday submitted a proposal to set the basic electricity tariff at Rs44.69 per unit, marking an increase of Rs10.69 per unit from the current average base tariff of Rs34 per unit.
This request is part of a seven-year Multi-Year Tariff (MYT) strategy, indicating the company’s intention to adjust its rates, according to ARY News.
It is suggested that the transmission and distribution rates be set at Rs 3.48 and Rs 3.84 per unit, respectively, and that the EPP component be fixed at Rs 18.88 per unit.
It is proposed that retail margin be set at Rs 0.59 per unit, and operation and maintenance costs be set at Rs0.42 per unit.
Moreover, K-Electric is seeking to recoup Rs 2.88 per unit for previously unallocated costs and Rs 2.07 per unit for working capital requirements.
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is currently soliciting feedback from concerned parties regarding K-Electric’s proposal, with a decision anticipated shortly. Should the proposal be sanctioned, it is poised to impact the electricity bills of countless consumers in Karachi and its vicinities.
Earlier, K-Electric approached NEPRA with a request to surge the electricity rate by Rs 18.86 per unit due to adjustments in monthly fuel charges over a span of seven months. Conversely, the company has also proposed a minor reduction in rates by Rs 0.29 per unit for a two-month duration.
