The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted a series of rain and thunderstorms starting from Monday, May 5, in Karachi, as well as in Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and the northern areas.
This weather pattern is expected to continue for a few days, during which strong winds, hailstorms, and lightning strikes are also anticipated. Rain, thunderstorms, and lightning are expected to start in Karachi from this evening. The city’s temperature is likely to remain at a maximum of 37°C, but the weather will feel hotter due to high humidity.
According to the Meteorological Department, light rain with thunder is predicted for Sunday in several districts, including Jamshoro, Tando Muhammad Khan, Badin, Thatta, Shahdadkot, Hyderabad, Matiari, Tando Allahyar, Mirpur Khas, Sanghar, and Shaheed Benazirabad.
Rain is also expected in Umerkot, Tharparkar, Badin, Hyderabad, Matiari, and Jamshoro. Scattered rain and thunderstorms are anticipated in various areas of Ghotki, Sukkur, Khairpur, Mirpur Khas, and Tando Muhammad Khan.
In addition, rain with thunder and occasional heavy hail is forecasted for different parts of Islamabad, the Pothohar region, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) have advised citizens to take precautions against urban flooding, landslides, and sudden flash floods.
Due to the severe weather conditions, unnecessary travel is being discouraged, especially in areas that may be prone to landslides.
The Meteorological Department has clarified that strong winds, hailstorms, and lightning could cause damage to weak buildings. During recent storms, two people have died and 24 have been injured due to lightning strikes, while nine buildings have sustained partial damage.
