KARACHI: The civil society in Karachi organised a walk to create awareness about breast cancer and a seminar to highlight the role of the psychologist in reducing the pain and distress of cancer patients.
According to details, the walk was organized by the First Lady of Pakistan, Begum Samina Alvi. Governor Sindh Imran Ismail’s wife, Reema Imran, also participated in the walk.
On the occasion, Governor Sindh’s wife, while addressing the participants, pointed out the lack of awareness about breast cancer was causing loss of women’s lives in Pakistan and called for enhanced awareness to check the disease.
The females could protect themselves from the lethal disease by conducting their self-assessment and instead of feeling shy they should prefer its treatment, she added.
Earlier today (Monday), First Lady Begum Samina Arif Alvi said that breast cancer though a fatal disease, was curable if it was diagnosed at an early stage.
Addressing a function here at the Governor House in connection with awareness about breast cancer, Begum Alvi said through timely diagnosis, the disease could be successfully treated.
“The womenfolk within the age bracket of 50 to 70 years were more vulnerable, however, recent researches showed that it was also detected in young women, which was a matter of great concern,” she added.
