A video which shows Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz engaging in a lively dance alongside two individuals donned in police uniform has gone viral on social media, however, subsequent investigations have revealed the video to be a product of deepfake technology.
Originally surfaced on TikTok merely two days earlier, the footage depicts Maryam Nawaz clad in police uniform, partaking in a dance sequence with two accompanying individuals. Despite widespread dissemination on social media, numerous viewers were misled into perceiving the video as authentic.
It is worth mentioning that Maryam Nawaz had recently been pictured attending a police graduation ceremony attired in uniform, a set of images extensively circulated online.
Upon closer scrutiny, it becomes evident that the video is a product of digital manipulation, wherein Maryam Nawaz’s likeness has been seamlessly integrated into the footage.
The video’s origin traces back to a TikTok user identified as Nabeel Khattak, who shared the creation via his account “@Nabeelptitiger2”. Subsequently, various other users redistributed the video, albeit with distinct musical accompaniment.
This instance isn’t the first encounter with deepfake technology for Maryam Nawaz. In 2023, a similarly generated video portraying her delivering a speech rife with contentious statements garnered significant traction.
