Nicole Kidman’s provocative and sex-positive erotic thriller Babygirl, which premiered on Christmas Day and garnered significant attention at the global box office, is now slated for release in Pakistan on Friday, May 2—pending approval from the national censor board.
In a recent announcement via Facebook, Nueplex Cinemas confirmed their intent to screen the film, subject to regulatory clearance. The film marks the latest directorial effort from Halina Reijn, the Dutch actor-turned-filmmaker known for her critically acclaimed 2022 Gen-Z satire Bodies Bodies Bodies.

Kidman portrays Romy, a successful CEO in the fast-paced world of automated delivery systems, balancing a complex personal life with her husband Jacob, played by Antonio Banderas, who is directing a modern production of Hedda Gabler.
Despite their frequent sexual encounters, Romy struggles to find true satisfaction within the marriage. Her fulfillment comes only after retreating to another room post-coitus to watch explicit content alone on her MacBook—a detail her husband appears oblivious to. This dissonance between public success and private desire forms the emotional core of the film.
The story delves into themes of desire, identity, and self-awareness, exploring Romy’s career highs, candid approach to cosmetic enhancements, and unconventional intimate habits. The film also examines family dynamics through Romy’s relationships with her daughters, each navigating their own identity.
If approved, its release in Pakistan is sure to stir both conversation and controversy.
