YouTube has introduced a new feature allowing Shorts creators to add custom thumbnails to their videos, fulfilling a long-standing demand from content creators and improving the way short-form videos are presented on the platform.
According to media reports, creators enrolled in the YouTube Partner Programme can now upload their preferred images as thumbnails for their Shorts videos.
Previously, users were only able to select a thumbnail from frames within the video itself, making it difficult for creators to maintain consistent branding or develop a distinctive visual style for their content.
With the introduction of the new feature, creators will be able to design and use more attractive and professional-looking thumbnails according to their preferences. The update is expected to enhance the overall appearance of Shorts and help capture viewers’ attention more effectively.
YouTube said the custom thumbnail option had been among the most requested features by creators across the platform.
The company clarified that the feature is initially available only to members of the YouTube Partner Programme. However, it plans to extend the facility to more creators in the future.
