WASHINGTON: US Department of State spokesperson Matthew Miller has expressed persistent support for freedom of expression while condemning the closure of X in Pakistan.
Speaking to the media in a press briefing, Matthew Miller emphasized the freedom of expression in Pakistan and said that like many nations in the world, the United States also supports the protection of this fundamental right in Pakistan.
Expressing concern over the bans imposed on various internet platforms in Pakistan, he condemned such actions, emphasized the importance of respecting the fundamental freedoms of the Pakistani people, and appealed to the authorities to uphold the principles of freedom of expression.
The US spokesman again expressed hope for cooperation with the newly formed government and called for a full investigation into the alleged irregularities in the election.
It should be remembered that due to the unannounced ban on X, Facebook, and other social media platforms in Pakistan, users are facing severe difficulties.
Cases are pending in various courts regarding the closure of X, but despite this, the social media platforms could not be fully restored.
