Warner Bros. has officially announced a new feature film titled Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest during its CinemaCon 2026 presentation, marking a major expansion of the Game of Thrones universe on the big screen.
The film is planned for a 2027 release or later and has been included in the studio’s long-term “2027 and beyond” slate.
The story will focus on Aegon I Targaryen, also known as Aegon the Conqueror, and his brutal campaign to unite the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros nearly 300 years before the events of the original series.

The project will explore the origins of the Targaryen dynasty and the legendary conquest that reshaped the continent.
The screenplay has been written by Beau Willimon, best known for House of Cards and Andor, signaling a high-profile creative direction for the franchise.
Initially rumored as a television spin-off, the project has now been confirmed as a theatrical release rather than a streaming debut on Max.

Meanwhile, the Game of Thrones universe continues to expand across multiple formats. House of the Dragon Season 3 is expected in June 2026, while A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is set for 2025, with its second season already in development. A stage production titled The Mad King is also scheduled for summer 2026.
