KABUL: Two US soldiers were killed and two others injured in an explosion in Afghanistan’s southern Kandahar province on Saturday.
According to the coalition forces “Two US soldiers were killed and two US service members were injured in action when their vehicle struck an IED in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan,”
It said in a statement that the Taliban militants have been using home-made improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to make roadside bombs and landmines for targeting security forces in the area.
The security forces were conducting operations as part of the Resolute Support mission, the statement added. On the other hand, the statement did not give information only saying “in accord with US Department of Defense policy, the names of the victims and injured in action will be withheld until a day after notification of next of kin is complete.”
Taliban militants have claimed responsibility for the attack. They wrote on a social media website, Twitter that insurgents conducted a roadside bombing against foreign forces near an airbase on the outskirts of provincial capital Kandahar city.
The militant has claimed that the situation has been improving in the area, the former throttlehold of Taliban, over several months.
