JOHANNESBURG: At least 27 people were killed and 26 others injured in two separate shooting incidents near the South African cities of Johannesburg and Cape Town.
According to police, the first attack took place at a bar near Johannesburg, where eight armed men opened fire, killing 17 people, including 13 men and four women, and injuring 15 others. The attackers also set two vehicles on fire while fleeing the scene.
The second incident occurred at an entertainment venue in the Lwandle township near Cape Town, where 10 people were killed and 11 others injured in a shooting.
The latest attacks come days after a similar incident in Durban that left 11 people dead, raising further concerns over gun violence and crime in the country.
Police have formed special teams to track down those responsible. The motives behind the attacks, however, remain unknown.
