Peshawar: Political activity has once again intensified in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with details emerging about a key meeting between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and PTI leader Ali Amin Gandapur. According to sources, the two leaders discussed the province’s current political situation, alleged moves by the federal government, and the party’s future strategy.
Concerns Over Federal Pressure and Possible Emergency
According to sources, the two leaders expressed serious concern over the possibility that the federal government could move to impose an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The meeting also reportedly discussed the possibility that the existing provincial setup could be protected if the provincial government refrained from announcing a tougher course of action against the federal government or calling for a long march.
Constitutional Ruling and Possible Change in Chief Minister
According to the account of the meeting, another significant issue discussed was the possibility of a forthcoming ruling by the federal constitutional court that could potentially pave the way for Ali Amin Gandapur to return as chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Gandapur reportedly assured those present that he would place the party’s interests above any personal political position.
Assembly Dissolution Option and Imran Khan’s Reported Displeasure
Sources said that if the ongoing political crisis reaches an impasse, the option of dissolving the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly remains on the table, subject to approval from the parliamentary party.
Chief Minister Sohail Afridi reportedly took the position that he would not hesitate to dissolve the assembly if the party’s legislators gave their approval.
Sources further claimed that Imran Khan had not been formally consulted over the issue of dissolving the assembly and had expressed strong displeasure over the matter.
According to sources, the reported displeasure was expressed in the presence of Bushra Bibi, a senior senator, and Imran Khan’s sisters. The issue of Imran Khan’s reportedly firm stance was also discussed in detail during the meeting between Sohail Afridi and Ali Amin Gandapur.
