KASHMORE: Police on Friday claimed to have apprehended another prime suspect Murtaza Chandio wanted in the triple murder of Advocate Umme Rubab’s family during a targeted operation in Kashmore.
Advocate Umme Rubab’s father Mukhtiar Chandio, grandfather Karamullah Chandio and paternal Uncle Kabil Chandio were killed on Jan 17, 2018, within the remit of Faridabad police station, Mehar taluka of Dadu district. Umm-e-Rubab is pursuing the case of her slain family members by herself.
According to a statement issued by Sindh police spokesman, Chandio had prize money of Rs1 million set by the police after the court hearing the case reprimanded the police for lethargy and failure to produce the accused before the court.
This is a second such arrest as the police claimed last November to have apprehended another prime suspect allegedly involved in the murder of three family members of Advocate Chandio.
Sukkur police conducted a raid near Kashmore and apprehended the prime accused Zulfikar Chandio, who had killed father, grandfather, and paternal uncle of Umme Rubab Chandio back in 2018.
Earlier, a bench of the Supreme Court hearing the case had ordered the police to arrest the absconding accused in Mehar triple murder case within a week on September 17.
Later, IGP Sindh Mushtaq Mehar paid a visit in Mehar and met with the bereaved Chandio family on October 29. He had assured the family of the provision of justice and showed displeasure over the non-arrest of the accused.
The case was highlighted last year when a video of a barefooted Umm-e-Rubab walking out from the court went viral on social media.
Earlier, Advocate Umme Rubab Chandio, daughter of deceased Mukhtiar Chandio, had lashed out at the federal and Sindh government for not providing justice to people, asking ‘can a common man gets justice in Naya Pakistan. She had blamed PPP leader Sardar Khan Chandio, Burhan Chandio and seven others for the heinous murders.
Talking to M.M News, Umme Rubab said, “What happened to that family is the story of every household in Sindh and due to the corrupt political personalities and police officials, people are deprived of justice and are killed unjustly.”
She further said that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had also turned a blind eye towards the injustice in Sindh. “IG Sindh himself said in a statement that such killings are politically motivated,” she claimed.
