A recent survey by Gallup Pakistan, a public opinion research organization, reveals that an overwhelming majority of Pakistanis prefer arranged marriages.
According to the survey, arranged marriages are the norm in Pakistan, with 81% of respondents indicating they had arranged marriages, compared to 18% who said they married for love.
The data shows a higher percentage of arranged marriages among women, with 85% marrying according to their parents’ wishes, while 14% chose their partners independently. For men, 77% followed their parents’ choice, while 22% married by their own preference.
The survey also highlighted that 21% of young people, up to the age of 30, had love marriages. In contrast, arranged marriages were most common among Pakistanis over the age of 50.
Moreover, 89% of individuals expressed a preference for their parents’ choice in marriage, while 10% prioritized their personal preference over their parents’ opinion.
