ISLAMABAD: The federal government has launched a modern digital system to facilitate pensioners and save them from repeated bank visits and lengthy paperwork.
Under the new policy, pensioners will no longer be required to visit banks repeatedly for biometric verification. Instead, they will provide proof of life every six months through the NADRA mobile application. An alternative and simplified procedure has also been introduced for senior citizens.
The traditional paper-based forms have been discontinued, while pension payments will now be credited directly to pensioners’ bank accounts through a digital credit system.
The role of commercial banks has also been limited to disbursing pension payments. Banks will neither require pensioners to provide biometric verification or proof of life nor have the authority to close or deactivate their pension accounts.
Under the automated system, NADRA’s database has been linked with the Controller General of Accounts (CGA) and the Military Accountant General (MAG). This integration will enable the digital life-verification signal to be automatically transmitted to the relevant authorities.
The new system, being implemented on the special directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, will apply to all federal civil employees.
