Lahore: The Punjab Traffic Police has simplified the process of obtaining driving licenses for students who have applied for the Punjab government’s scheme to provide 100,000 electric bikes.
DIG Traffic Punjab Waqas Nazir has directed licensing centers across the province to provide priority services to students applying under the e-bike scheme. Relevant officers, including Chief Traffic Officers (CTOs) and District Traffic Officers (DTOs), will assist students with guidance and help expedite the licensing process.
Under the new arrangements, eligible students will be able to obtain both a motorcycle learner’s license and a regular driving license on the same day. The mandatory 42-day waiting period between obtaining a learner’s license and applying for a permanent license has also been waived for these students.
A valid motorcycle driving license is mandatory for students seeking to benefit from the e-bike scheme. The Punjab government recently invited applications from students for the provision of 100,000 electric bikes, with the initiative aimed at improving transportation facilities for students and promoting environmentally friendly transport.
According to the Traffic Police, more than 222,000 motorcycle licenses have been issued across the province over the past eight days, while more than 6,500 driving permits for underage drivers have also been issued this month.
The DIG Traffic has directed licensing centers to ensure all necessary facilities are available to students, while also emphasizing driving and road safety training so that new riders can operate their motorcycles responsibly and safely.
