Since the creation of Pakistan, the life of the poor and middle class has never been easy and with the passage of time, rising inflation has broken the backbone of the masses.
Vegetables, pulses or meat, nowadays the price of every food item is skyrocketing and the poor and middle class, who needs 1 kg of vegetables or pulses, is now considering cutting short the quantity of vegetables and pulses.
Yesterday, the news became an adornment in the Pakistani media that the federal government has once again postponed the decision to give a compensation of 44 billion for the supply of food items to the public at cheap prices from the utility stores.
The reason for delaying the decision was that the government was considering various proposals to reduce the relief package and it was estimated that the sell of 5 food items at discounted prices under the relief package will continue for which a subsidy of Rs32 to 44 billion is needed.
The government is considering 3 proposals for the said subsidy, while the prices of various items at utility stores were also increased this month. One kg of laundry powder became expensive by Rs 75.
At utility stores, the price of diapers has been increased by Rs 348, 100 grams of toothpaste by Rs 10, body wash by Rs 30, dish wash by Rs 50, while the price of a box of tissue paper has been increased by Rs 11.
Prices of other essential commodities were also increased. During August, prices of various pulses were also increased by Rs 50 per kg.
It is such a painful situation that rich people are getting richer by doing various businesses and investments, many of whom do not pay taxes, while the poor people do not have even pulses to eat.
Countless poor people are still crying of a lack of money and going to bed with less food or with empty stomachs, the entire responsibility lies with the government for not considering the needs of the middle class while dealing with the IMF. Who needs a subsidy today?
