KARACHI: The Sindh government has announced the arrival of a fresh fleet of buses in Karachi as part of the People’s Bus Service initiative, aimed at bolstering public transportation for the public.
This initiative entails deploying new buses procured from China to serve additional routes within the city, anticipated to ease the burden on existing transportation infrastructure and furnish commuters with more efficient and dependable travel choices. Sharjeel Inam Memon, speaking on behalf of the government, highlighted that these new buses would significantly enhance affordable and comfortable travel facilities for the populace.
According to Memon, 20 buses arrived at the Port, and the Sindh transport department is set to introduce new routes under the People’s Bus Service to enhance public travel amenities.
Moreover, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab reveals plans to transfer 60 Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) buses to diesel, operating under a public-private partnership (PPP-mode) to cater to citizens’ travel needs.
Recently, during his inaugural visit to the city, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the integration of 150 buses into Karachi’s transport network, acknowledging the provincial government’s efforts to enhance public transportation services.
Furthermore, Karachi introduced the Pink Bus service earlier this month, exclusively for women and girls, initially offering free rides for two months and subsequently at a nominal fare of Rs50 per passenger.
