KARACHI: Sunday marked Karachi’s hottest day so far this year, as temperatures soared to 37 degrees Celsius as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasts an extended spell of scorching weather for the city, with temperatures anticipated to range between 36 to 38 degrees Celsius over the next three to four days.
According to the Department of Meteorology, Karachi was engulfed in a stifling and humid atmosphere on Sunday, with scant relief from sea breezes. Humidity levels surged to 45%, exacerbating the perception of heat beyond the recorded temperature.
Comparatively, Saturday’s maximum temperature stood at 34.1 degrees Celsius, making Sunday’s peak of 37 degrees Celsius a significant climb of 2.9 degrees. Northern areas of Karachi experienced strong winds, clocking speeds between 20 to 25 kilometers per hour.
The forecast suggests that Karachi and its environs will endure hot conditions during daylight hours, with mild breezes expected in the evenings. Monday’s temperature is predicted to reach 38 degrees Celsius.
Residents are urged to take necessary precautions to safeguard against the heat and stay cool during this period.
