MQM-P demands new province in Sindh, rights for Karachi

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has once again demanded a new province in Sindh and rights for Karachi.

Addressing the ‘Karachi Rights’ march, MQM-P convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said the creation of a new province was inevitable. “A province in Urban areas of Sindh, south Sindh will be made. You decide the name, we will decide the boundaries,” he said.

He said their love for Pakistan should not be considered as their weakness. “We are muhajirs (migrants) but you are economic migrants,” he said, adding that those who created Pakistan will now save it.

Siddiqui said those who oppose and resisted the breakup of Sindh province into administrative units have usurped their rights for the past fifty years. “It is our success that we reached here. Muslims of the subcontinent had concerns that Hindus would usurp their rights. But we are now sure that our rights have been snatched,” he added.

He said it was the constitutional right of the people to demand a new province and the message of the rally was reaching people’s home. He congratulated the people and said their dream will be realised one day. He said the people of the region should rule over their area, but ironically people from Dadu, Khairpur and Larkana were controlling Karachi.

The MQM-P leader said that if they get the mandate they will depute local police personnel in Malir, Liaquatabad and Lyari areas of Karachi. He said this was an opportunity for the people of Karachi to join them as they move forward for their cause.

He warned that the party will lead more marches in October and November. He said the lofty claims and promises under the Karachi package are emerging but they are not enforced.

He stressed that all their demands have culminated in the principal demand for a new province. Members of the MQM-P Coordination Committee also addressed the rally.
