LHC summons education secretary on schools’ vacation fee

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has summoned the Punjab education secretary to explain why he has hiked private schools’ tuition fee in violation of the Supreme Court orders.
An LHC bench was hearing a petition seeking directives for private schools not to collect excessive tuition fee.
The petitioner complained to the bench that certain private schools had raised tuition fee excessively and collected summer vacation fee in violation in utter ignorance for the top court orders.

The bench summoned the provincial education secretary and the chief executive officer (CEO) of a private school to explain their position, expressing displeasure over violation of the top court orders in regard to school fees.
On 21st September, parents had protested against school fee hikes and blatant disregard of orders by the Supreme Court in the Liberty Chowk area of Lahore.
Parents brought their kids along to participate in the protest and held up placards with inscriptions lamenting private school owners and their illegal practices.
On 13th September, Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood had warned private schools not to increase fees more than the ratio allowed by the Supreme Court.
