Kuwaiti government has announced major reforms to the family visit visa system for expatriate residents. Under the new policy, the minimum salary requirement has been removed, and the entire application process has been digitized, aiming to simplify procedures while maintaining the verification system.
According to the new framework introduced by the Kuwaiti government, sponsors are no longer required to meet a minimum salary threshold. Family visit visa applications can now be submitted online through the official Kuwait visa platform.
Processing of applications will also be conducted electronically, reducing paperwork and the need for in-person visits. Moreover, it is no longer mandatory for visitors to travel via Kuwait’s national airline.
Under the revised system, proof of relationship remains mandatory, such as a marriage certificate or birth certificate. The online system has eliminated or minimized older manual steps, reducing the need for embassy affidavits.
A correctly translated marriage certificate listing both spouses’ names is generally sufficient, provided it is properly uploaded. Applicants who previously obtained a visit visa may reuse earlier supporting affidavits if still valid.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and the Kuwait Visa Portal’s online branch are now the primary channels for submitting applications, replacing the old manual process. Earlier, applicants had to submit a work permit, original passport, relationship certificate issued by the embassy, and documents verified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
If spouses’ passports include each other’s names, it further strengthens proof of relationship. Marriage affidavits on Indian stamp paper in English may also be accepted, provided they clearly establish the marital relationship.
Applicants are instructed to ensure all documents are clear, properly translated (if necessary), and correctly uploaded on the official online platform.
