MADINAH: The historic Al-Faqir Well in Madinah, also known as the Salman Al-Farsi Well, has reopened for pilgrims and tourists after development work.
Dating back over 14 centuries, according to the Saudi Press Agency, this site stands as a testament to history, intricately linked to the times of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Situated in the Alya area of Madinah, the well, surrounded by lush orchards, once utilized pulleys for water extraction.
Now overseen by the Madinah Region Development Authority and other pertinent bodies, it has been enhanced with amenities such as a pool.
Historical researcher Fouad Al-Maghamisi elucidated that the Al-Faqir Well’s origins intertwine with the narrative of Salman Al-Farsi, who initially toiled as a slave in a nearby orchard. Prophet Muhammad emancipated him by compensating the orchard’s proprietor, leading to the site’s association with Salman Al-Farsi, though it’s now commonly known as the Al-Faqir Well.
Development initiatives have fortified the well and its conduits with an iron fence and reinforced pathways and gates using local Madinah stone, meticulously preserving its original essence.
The surrounding area has seen the addition of palm trees, along with enhancements to the internal courtyard and the installation of stone benches for visitors’ comfort.
An informative plaque now adorns the entrance, offering insights into the location’s significance and its rich historical background.
