Healthcare is the most significant subject when discussing a country’s underlying problems. The majority of people in Pakistan are from the lower and middle classes. If a person becomes unwell, his family is not usually able to pay for adequate hospital care. Everyone is aware of how poorly public hospitals are run, and treatment in private hospitals is just out of reach for the average person.
Keeping these things in mind, the Pakistan National Health Card, the country’s largest public health program, was introduced by the former Prime Minister Imran Khan during his tenure. Along with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Health Cards were provided to people in Punjab province, whose population is more than half of Pakistan. It allowed the average person to receive quality healthcare from both private and public hospitals.
It’s been revealed that the government has ceased paying for the health card scheme. As a result, hundreds of thousands of patients are being denied access to medical treatment. According to Imran Khan, the Health Card is not being funded by the current government, which is creating issues for millions of people. He claimed that the Health Card Program was one of his administration’s biggest achievements and that the current government shouldn’t deprive masses access to decent healthcare simply because this program was initiated by the PTI.
People from lower- and middle-income levels cannot pay the high cost of healthcare in private hospitals. Thus, the federal government must act right away to address the funding issues with Health Cards. If the previous administration had made a praiseworthy effort to give the general public valuable amenities like healthcare, the current government should keep up the good work since it serves the interests of the populace rather than any political party.
